NHS Courses for 2019-20

NHS Courses for 2019-20

Scroll down and select your grade level to find the courses available to select from! Also be sure to check out the "Pathways" file with a complete list of all CTE and CCI Pathways! CTE (Career Technical Education) are pathways created and recognized by the State that guarantee a specific skill that can be used in jobs that exist in today's market. Some classes have certificates available while others provide the hands-on training needed in the field they plan to work in.CCI (College and Career Index) is a sequence of courses (two-years) that the State will give favorable credit towards as it is measured on the California Dashboard (the new way schools in California are measured).

Things we're working on for 2019-20:

  • NEW... Full Classes: Woodshop, Graphic Design, Yoga, Weightlifting, Ceramics 1
  • NEW... Class Closures: Cheer, Dance, Boys Basketball, AP Euro, AP Spanish Lit
  • NEW... All students must take a Science class and a Math class during their 9th, 10th, and 11th grade years to prepare students for the competitive marketplace and life beyond high school.
  • Confirmed: AP English Literature and AP English Language is now open either 11th or 12th graders! That's right, we no longer have restrictions - take what you enjoy!
  • ConfirmedAll incoming 9th grade Band students must now take Health (1st semester) and PE (2nd semester) as one of their periods during the school day. State regulations require all 9th graders to be in PE all year long. This is a change from our previous practice since students could take their required 4 semesters of PE during the fall 7th period class for all 4 years of high school to meet the district's graduation requirement. Unfortunately, the State said we were out of compliance and we must have all 9th graders enrolled in a PE accredited class for both semesters. (PE Department Webpage)
  • Confirmed: Any 9th grade student who fails the Physical Education test is required to take PE their 10th grade year for the full year. There is no waiver to excuse students from this, nor can they take PE during Summer School. (PE Department Webpage)
  • Confirmed: Any 11th grade student who fails the Physical Education test and is not 16 will be placed in PE during the first semester of their 11th grade year. (PE Department Webpage)
