COURSE DESCRIPTION:

It is often asked, why are students required to take Mathematics?  Because it is an essential tool in life. It can be used to solve the simplest to complex problems in the world. I enjoy teaching Math and students will enjoy the class if they come each day prepared to learn. 

There are a lot of topics to cover; therefore, students can expect to devote a considerable amount of time and work to this course.  Mathematics is more than just numbers.  It includes logic that will help students to develop better critical thinking skills.  I want all students to be able to think on their own, work independently as well as cooperating with others, be creative, and ultimately apply what they learn to assist them in becoming successful in life.

  • Two- and Three-Dimensional Models

 

I will also use Google Classroom for the following reasons

  1. If a student is absent homework and lessons will be posted weekly.
  2. Some homework will be done in Google Classroom from Realize.
  3. Most of the daily lessons will be posted in the form of a video

To access google classroom:

  1. Go to www.cnusd.k12.ca.us, click on "myCnusd"(top of page) then click on DIGITAL CLASSROOMS (left side of page, under Q and email), then click on OPEN Google Classroom
  2. Type your google email address and click next - enter [email protected] as your email.  For example, [email protected]
  3. Type in your password and click next – enter just the student ID as the username and then enter your password
  4. Now you will see that you are signed into your google apps for education account
  5. Click on the “+” sign located on the right corner.  Go to “join a class” and enter the class code (lower case).

All my lessons, some of the homework, and worksheets, will be posted on Google classroom; some assignments will be from Pearson Savvas Easy.

 To go to Pearson Savvas Easy

  1. Go to MYCNUSD share point
  2. Click on 9-12
  3. Click on math
  4. Click on Pearson Savvas Easy.
  5. Go to class.

Login with your student email account and the password chosen by the student. Do not forget to write your password down in case you forget it later.

I will also be using Remind as a form of communication.

 

ASSESSMENTS:

 

Tests, quizzes and will be given routinely. Pop quizzes may also be given.

All test and quizzes should include students name and class period.

For every problem, the student must show work, the correct method and answer.

Showing only the correct answer, will not earn the student any points. For the same reason if the student has the correct answer but the work is wrong, he or she will not receive any points. On the other hand, if the work is correct but the answer is wrong then the student will receive half credit.

 

HOMEWORK: 

Homework is essential to gain mastery of the concepts.  Thus, homework assignments are expected to be completed, and turned in on time for credit. All homework will not be graded for the right/wrong answers. All homework must have the students name, period, and date.

  • Homework assignments will have a due date. If assignments are not turn in on time and are one day late, student will receive no credit.
  • All homework must be completed with work shown that is related to the problem to receive full credit (answers only, will not count for credit)
  • All homework must be written on their Homework log sheet and stamped by the teacher to indicate completion to receive credit. The signatures are part of the homework credit
  • The Homework Log sheet must have parent’s signature next to any quiz or test score and at the bottom of the sheet at the end of every 10 to 12 assignments.
  • The homework log must have student’s name and class period.
  • Homework assigned from the book, should be done in a separate sheet of paper, all assigned problems must be numbered and all work must be shown and be related to that problem.
  • Homework assigned from Realize should have 60% of the problems correct to receive full credit. Anything between 40% and less then 60% of the problems correct will receive half credit. Anything less than 40% will receive no credit.
  • Homework assigned in google classroom in the form of a PDF, should be printed and show work for every problem assigned. If student chooses not to print the PDF, then he/she will need to copy each problem on a sheet of paper; all assigned problems must be numbered, and all work must be shown and be related to that problem.

Failure to follow any of the above will result in points taken away from the homework grade.

NOTES:

 

All students ‌must‌ ‌maintain a course notebook and ‌submit‌ ‌handwritten‌ ‌course‌ ‌notes‌ ‌for‌ ‌each‌ ‌unit. Must be done in Cornell notes, must have reflections at the end of every section. ‌For NOTES, the following proper heading is required at the top of each page:

 

  1. Chapter and section #, Tittle of Lesson
  2. Course Name,
  3. Full Name, ID, Period and Date

Class Rules (participation grade) is an important aspect of the students’ learning experience, and everyone is expected to participate.  I strongly encourage all students to speak up in class and express their ideas in a way that others can understand.

 

  • Students must be on time to class and be ready to learn.
  • Students will bring materials to class.
  • Attendance in class is also important.
  • Turn in the sign syllabus.
  • Students will pay attention to instruction and not disrupt the teacher or others from learning.
  • Students will show respect towards their teacher, all students and school personnel.
  • Bring their laptops.
  • Students will avoid bringing to class anything that causes distraction from instruction.
  • Cell phones or any other electronic devices can be a major distraction, unless permitted by the teacher, they should be turn off and put away.
  • Food, gum, and drinks are to stay outside the classroom (water will be ok)
  • Students will be required to do work in class, weather be working on their homework, or classwork or project.
  • Students will receive 5 bathroom passes for each semester, if they use it all before the semester ends, they will be permitted to go to the bathroom, but will lose participation points.

Daily Warm up Tickets will be part of your participation. Will be done at the beginning of class in Google classroom.

Failure to comply with any of the above will result in losing partial or all the Participation Points.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

 

Students are expected to conduct themselves ethically and honorably.  It is expected that any classwork/assignments/quizzes/tests that the student completes or turns in as their own is truthfully their own work. Cheating is dishonest. Students who are caught cheating will receive an F for that classwork/assignment/quiz/test.

 

Absence Policy:

  • Any assignments including test and quizzes missed due to an absence (not a school activity) must be made up within two days of your return. Failure to do so will forfeit the right if taking any missed test or quiz.
  • In case of a prolonged absence, it is the student's responsibility to email me or call me to set up an acceptable time to turning any missed work. Most notes, and homework will be posted in Google classroom.
  • No extra time will be allowed for absences due to school activity, field trip, assemblies, sports, etc. they are due as schedule.

If you have any difficulties in understanding a section, please come and see me as soon as possible during the following time:

  • During class time (if time permits).
  • During lunch.
  • Before school starts 7 am in my classroom (need to schedule with me a day before).
  • If you cannot make it to any of these times, then I suggest in getting a tutor, a peer, a friend, and/or relative that can help you.
