Teaching & Educational Background
The 2022-2023 school year will be my 11th year in teaching and my 9th year in CNUSD. I spent 7 years at Eleanor Roosevelt HS, but I am excited to be part of the Norco family! I am passionate about literature and literacy, and I am an avid reader in my spare time. This year I am teaching 10th & 11th Grade, which incorporates some of my favorite themes and literature. I have a B.A. in English, UC Riverside, a M.A in Education, University of Southern California, and a M.A. in English Literature, Southern New Hampshire University.
My Teaching Philosophy
I value every student's progress towards their goals. Therefore, it is my intention to be deliberate in supporting and guiding each of them daily in finding success, and celebrating the progress they make. I model this through the mindset of aiming for "progress, not perfection," and through my own efforts to be a life-long learner.
Classroom Information
- My syllabus can be found in Canvas. Please have your student access it there for you.
- Grades will be updated weekly in Q.
- 10th Grade will focus on themes of alienation and society through the relationship between power and freedom
- 11th Grade will focus on a survey of American Literature with a focus on Rhetoric and argumentation
Family & Fun
I have four children - most of them are all adults now, ranging in age from 16 to 32. We welcomed our first grandchild this summer, and we are excited to welcome our second one this coming November! When I am not working, I enjoy reading (big surprise coming from an English Literature major, right?) quite a bit. I started my own book club four years ago, and we have read about 40 books in that time. I am passionate about researching my family history, love country music (well, all music really, but country has my heart), and my happy place is at the beach!
