PE Requirements

PE Requirements

Students must fulfill their Physical Education requirements to meet California Education Code 51225.3 [a][1][F] and 51222[a] and the Corona-Norco Unified School District Board Policy and Administrative Regulations (BP and AR 6520).

All 9th grade students are required to take the Physical Fitness test during their 9th grade year. Passing consists of meeting the State’s expectations of five out of six standards (Ed Code 51241). All 9th grade students test around March of each school year. The pass/fail scores are calculated immediately and shared with counselors to ensure they schedule future courses based on their needs.

·       If students pass the test during their 9th grade year, they may complete exemptions to allow them out of the strict requirements of two years taken within their 9th and 10th grade during the regular academic year.

If students
do not pass the test during their 9th grade year, they must enroll in PE during their 10th grade year and may not take Summer School PE nor postpone PE to a later year.

Where we are finding students are impacted the most:

  1. Band students (only their first semester of Band counts towards PE, which means they must take Intro to PE during the second semester of their 9th grade year)
  2. Students who want to take PE in Summer School (may not be applicable if they do not pass the PE test)
  3. Students who want to postpone taking PE until their 11th and 12th grade years (cannot do so if they do not pass the PE test)
  4. 11th grade students who do not pass the test and have not yet turned 16 years old
