Graduation Day Map


Dear Graduates, Parents, and Families of Norco High School

This letter contains important information regarding our 2020 commencement details, information for students, and rules and guidelines regarding the drive-up graduation held on Norco High School campus. Please read this message in its entirety to ensure a smooth and safe event.

Our drive-up graduation will be held on one day, June 2, 2020. It is important to adhere to your graduation time slot in order to manage traffic congestion and minimize waiting times. You will be given a card at 2nd station in the student parking lot. This card will have the graduate’s legal name and any honors they received through the school on it. If any corrections need to be made please notify the staff member when you are allowed to exit the vehicle. This card will need to be presented to the name caller as they approach the stage.

The alpha breakdown is as follows:

  • 8:00 am – 9:00 am:  A-Carrier
  • 9:00 am – 10:00 am: Cascio-Garibay
  • 10:00 am – 11:00 am: Garrido-Jones
  • 11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Juarez-Ortega
  • 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Ortiz – Soto
  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Sousa-Z

Graduates are limited to one vehicle for their drive-up graduation. We advise you to arrive on campus no earlier than your designated time frame. Vehicles without a Norco graduate inside will not be granted entry. There is no maximum occupancy limits of passengers to a vehicle for entry; however families need to adhere to the occupancy limits of their vehicle. Violators risk being cited by the Riverside Sheriff’s Department. We highly encourage decorating your vehicles to create a celebratory atmosphere that day, as well as the use of horns/noise makers. PLEASE limit the use of these items to only when your graduate is on the stage in order to be respectful to the other families around you. You are more than welcome to use the noise makers in the North Alley as well as you exit the campus.

Vehicles will enter the campus through the student parking entrance off Temescal Avenue. Vehicles must follow the designated route maintaining a safe speed and monitoring their surroundings. Graduates cannot be the driver of the vehicle and must be sitting in the front passenger seat. In order to uphold the health and safety of our students, staff, and families, CNUSD is recommending that everyone attending Norco’s drive-up graduation must be wearing a face covering and follow the 6-feet social distancing at all times of the program.

Graduation Day Map

No other passengers may exit the vehicle until the graduate is entering the stage. Vehicles and graduates will continue to follow the path, adhering to 6-foot social distancing. Once you enter the staging area of the graduation, the graduate will be instructed as to when they can leave the vehicle. Upon exit, there will be markings on the ground directing the graduate where to stand as well as a staff member assisting. Graduates will approach the stage giving their name card to the reader. Graduates will then cross the stage and go to the blue X, it is at this point they will receive their diploma cover (photo information will be inside of the cover, please read this information prior to leaving the campus.  Please note this is a NO-CONTACT exchange and will NOT involve a handshake.

One passenger from the vehicle will be permitted to exit the vehicle to take video and photos of the student once they are on stage. There will be a designated area for this individual to stand in. DC Photography will also be on-site to take the graduate’s picture professionally on stage and this item can be ordered online. Vehicles should NOT be turned off at any point during the procession. The vehicles needs to follow the pace of the graduate as they walk through the diploma ceremony and exit the stage. Vehicles will be instructed where to stop so as to allow the graduate and the singular photo taker to re-enter the vehicle safely.

Drivers will then proceed to follow the designated path out of the upper stadium lot and turn right into the alleyway. The vehicles will continue to follow a designated path that will take them to the North Alley and eventually exit onto Temescal. Please note the Riverside Sheriff’s Department will be on site to assist.

For your convenience, restrooms will be available upon request. Please note that no other campus facilities will be available to the public. The 2020 commencement programs, custom Class of 2020 masks (a gift to our graduates from CNUSD), and a QR code flyer will be distributed to vehicles at Station 2. The QR code flyer will have resources and information for you to use for the virtual graduation on Saturday, June 6th. Celebrate and watch with family at 7pm.

Graduates must arrive wearing their cap, gown, and tassel. Gowns are not allowed to be decorated or embellished; however if students are purchasing their caps on June 4th they may decorate it. Graduates must adhere to the cap decorating guidelines. Graduates should only wear school approved cords, stoles, sashes and/or medals. Leis (floral, money, candy, and beads) and items not given out by NHS must be limited to 1 school appropriate item. Administration has final say on if additional item will be allowed during the stage walk.

Please remember that campus is still closed. Once you finish with the drive-up graduation you must vacate the property.


Cap/Gown/Tassel Collection-Obligations-Diploma Distribution

On Thursday, June 4th from 8:00am - 12:00am we will distribute graduates their diplomas. A no-contact drive-up service will be set up, the exact map and location on campus will be available to you by May 28th. Graduates will need to bring their student ID card in order to obtain their diploma. Additionally, graduates must bring all non-purchased items that were provided to them by the school through Balfour (cap, gown, and tassel). Missing or damaged items will need to be purchased before a diploma is given to a graduate. Please reference the cap decoration information you received for the cost of items and how to purchase them on this day. If you do NOT turn in your cap/gown/tassel at this time or purchase the items you do not return during this designated time period it will become a $185 obligation.

If a senior has any obligations of missing textbooks, athletic equipment, or club dues they will not be given their diploma. You can pay and/or check your obligations, return textbooks at the designated station on May 27th during the cap/gown distribution. Graduates must either produce the missing items in good condition or pay the fees.


Virtual Graduation

On Saturday, June 6th at 7:00 pm our Norco virtual graduation will go live. Please tune in to hear a message from our Principal, Mr. Ibbetson, the presenting and awarding of our graduates by the CNUSD Superintendent, Dr. Michael Lin and CNUSD Board Member Mr. John Zickefoose, and various student speeches.
