Dr. Michael Lin

Dear CNUSD Families,

It is with great enthusiasm, optimism, and delight that I welcome you back to another exciting school year. I hope the summer months afforded you a chance to spend quality time with family and friends.  As for our year-round schools, thank you for continuing the tenacious spirit of teaching and learning.

It has been a busy summer here across the district. Our teachers and support staff have done an amazing job getting ready to welcome our students back to the 2019-20 school year.  Thanks to the hard work of our students, educators, support staff, classified staff, parents, and administrators, we are beginning the school year on a celebratory note.  As a 2019 California Distinguished School District, awarded by the California Department of Education, our preliminary results indicate that CNUSD students continue to make gains on the state exams, and we are committed to further this level of achievement. Graduation rates continue to be among the highest in the county and we continue to celebrate state and national championship sports and extracurricular programs.

Looking forward to this school year, student academic and social-emotional success continues to be a paramount focus. It is the goal of the CNUSD Board of Education to increase art education, mental health support, and ensuring our teachers and staff are equipped with the tools necessary to deliver quality instruction that promotes rigor and future-ready skills for ALL students to be prepared in today’s global society.

The importance of school safety has been a long-standing priority for CNUSD.  Providing a safe learning environment for our staff and students remains critical in our everyday commitment to staff, students, and families. The district's foundation of maintaining safe schools is addressed in our multi-agency Project Safety Net brochure. In partnership with our local law enforcement agencies, the Corona-Norco Unified School District developed a comprehensive plan, which includes safety measures that would be deployed in the event of an emergency. I strongly encourage families to review the Project Safety Net here

I would like to reemphasize and reinforce practices that have been implemented at our school sites over the past several years to minimize vulnerabilities and increase preparedness.  These examples include:

  • Mental Health Task Force
  • Lockdown drills
  • Active shooter training
  • Visitor Management System requiring visitors to show proof of ID and Megan’s Law verification
  • New fencing at schools throughout the District
  • Security cameras at all school sites
  • Law enforcement officer at each high school
  • Partnership with Corona PD and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, which includes patrolling at all campuses

Understandably, recent national news of unspeakable tragedy has heightened concerns and raised anxiety regarding safety. Therefore, starting next Monday, I have added campus security personnel to monitor overall campus security and to assist with start of school pedestrian safety.

Your partnership and support are key elements to ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.  Building security, incident response, threat assessment, and motivation reduction are additional components of this effort. For this reason, we are enlisting the partnership of all school community members to never hesitate reporting safety concerns to campus staff or administration. The most critical safeguard is to See Something and to Say Something

In closing, to ensure you stay informed about the wonderful things taking place district-wide, as well as district safety updates, I encourage you to follow CNUSD on
FacebookTwitter, and InstagramPlease also subscribe to the District's e-newsletter, CNUSD Connection, and the official District YouTube Channel, CNUSDTV

On behalf of the Board of Education and Cabinet, we want to thank you for your partnership on this journey and your immeasurable support of our schools. I am confident that together, we will make it another great school year.

Sincerely,

Michael H. Lin, Ed.D.
Superintendent
