It is the expectation that students of Norco High School will maintain positive and punctual attendance to all of their assigned classes. It is also the expectation that students not only arrive ON TIME, but that they arrive prepared to learn and actively participate in the curriculum planned for the day. Students shall have the appropriate materials, tools, and mindset to achieve academic success.
IF YOU RECEIVED AN ABSENCE PHONE CALL IN ERROR
Check the Q Parent Portal to locate which class your student was marked absent/tardy. Your student will need to clear the error directly with the teacher who marked them absent/tardy by picking up an Attendance Verification slip from the attendance office and having the teacher sign and submit it to the Attendance Office.
STUDENT IN CLASS NOT FEELING WELL
For safety reasons students should not contact parents/guardians from the classroom. Students should ask their teacher to visit the health office, and the school health clerk/nurse will contact the parent/guardian.
ABSENCES
A parent/guardian is required to call the Attendance Office as soon as they know their student will not be attending school. Absences not cleared within 10 days will be recorded as an unexcused/truancy and Saturday School will be issued for the student.
Messages left with the Attendance Office require the following information:
- Student’s 6-digit I.D. number
- Student’s first and last name
- The reason for absence (please be brief when possible)
- The name and relationship of person calling
- If you do not know the student I.D. number, please spell the last name.
Remember to call each day the student is absent.
A pupil shall be excused from school when the absence is:
- Due to his or her illness.
- Due to quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer.
- For the purpose of having medical, dental, optometric, or chiropractic services rendered
- For the purpose of attending the funeral services of a member of his or her immediate family, so long as the absence is not more than one day if the service is conducted in California and not more than three days if the service is conducted outside California.
- Due to illness or medical appointment during school hours of a child of whom the pupil is the custodial parent.
For justifiable, personal reasons, including, but not limited to, an appearance in court, attendance at a funeral services, observance of a holiday or ceremony of his or her religion, attendance at religious retreats, or attendance at an employment conference, when the pupil’s absence has been requested in writing by the parent or guardian and approved by the principal or a designated representative pursuant to uniform standards established by the governing board.
Assignments and Excused Absences
A pupil absent from school under this section shall be allowed to complete all assignments and tests missed during the absence that can be reasonably provided and, upon satisfactory completion within a reasonable period of time, shall be given full credit therefore, the teacher of any class from which a pupil is absent shall determine the tests and assignments shall be reasonably equivalent to, but not necessarily identical to, the tests and assignments that the pupil missed during the absence. SART/SARB
Students who continue to be truant or tardy to class will be placed on a School Attendance Contract. If the student's attendance does not improve, a hearing will be scheduled with the School Attendance Review Board, and may be reported to the Riverside County District Attorney's office.
LATE ARRIVAL
Students checking in late to school must scan their ID card at The Attendance Window
Students who arrive to school late due to attending a medical or dental appointment in the morning, must bring their official note to the attendance office. The parent/guardian can also come in to notify the attendance office if no note was provided during appointment. Student will then be issued an excused late pass.
Tardies per State Education Code: Traffic and car issues/problems, oversleeping, missing the bus are not excusable per State Ed Code 48205
Early Dismissal
To check out of school early - a Parent/Guardian or the individual(s) listed on the student's emergency contacts are the ONLY allowed persons that may sign out the student in the Attendance office. Individuals MUST Be Present and have a photo ID Card or Passport for verification. Student safety is our utmost concern.
Please Note: The name on the ID or Passport must match the name on your student's emergency contact information that the parent/guardian has submitted to the school. Nicknames that you've registered will not be valid if it does not match the legal name on the ID.
If you need to make changes to your emergency contacts, you maty do so by logging on to the Parent Connect Portal.

TARDY POLICY & PROCEDURES
Students are expected to be on time to school. Students are considered tardy if they are not inside their classroom when the tardy/passing bell rings. Students will be have their ID scanned and an email will be sent to the Parent/Guardian and to the student's school email. Once scanned, a tardy pass is printed and provides information on time arrived and how many tardies have been accumulated.
Students will be subject to disciplinary action. Tardiness applies before school, between classes, and after lunch.
