DISTANCE LEARNING I hope you and your families are all doing well. I have been working hard to ensure all of my students will continue to have the opportunity to learn and grow for the rest of this school year!

As mentioned in a previous email, I will be continuing to use Google Classroom for enrichment lessons during our school closure. Distance Learning begins on Monday April 13th, and I am excited to gain some consistency and connect with everyone again! I hope this page provides you enough information in regards to my “virtual” class to prevent any confusion.

Technology Needed:

  • I will be using Google Classroom because students in my class are already familiar with this system. (If for some reason a student is not enrolled, this document has the class codes along with directions to enroll in their Google Classroom.)

  • I will also be utilizing Zoom, a video communications platform, in order to have live discussions with students. PARENTS:please be aware that Zoom meetings are optional for my class, and if students choose to participate in them, they have the option to keep their cameras and audio off.
I would love for students to take part and engage in discussion with me and their peers!

  • Both of these platforms can be downloaded as apps on smartphones. This means, even though I suggest using a computer, especially for assignments, it is absolutely possible to complete all Distance Learning assignments for my class using a phone.

How My Class Will Work:

  1. There will be weekly assignments posted on Mondays.
(This will typically include a reading and 2 assignments in response to the reading.)

  2. The assignments will be due on Fridays by midnight. They can be turned in at any time during the week.
(This seems like a lot of time, but given our current situation I did not want to overwhelm students while adapting to learning exclusively online.)

  3. On Fridays, an optional Zoom meeting will be held. Students do not HAVE to attend in order to receive credit for their weekly assignments. However, we may review the reading and assignments during that meeting.
(I am very excited to see everyone and try this out!)

  4. Weekly Assignment grades will be posted in the grade book by the following Tuesday. Keep in mind that these lessons are for enrichment only. This means they will only enhance grades, not hurt them.
For more information on this, please read this document.

  5. Assignments will only be accepted during the week they are assigned. Since there is an entire week to complete the tasks,I will NOT accept late work.

Office Hours:

I will be readily available to respond to any of your questions or concerns on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 1:15 to 2:15 PM (This is a guaranteed nap time for my 4 month old baby!!) However, feel free to email/ contact me at any time at and I will respond as soon as I can! Students can still contact me through the Remind.

Other Questions:

Please view this document. It includes more detail as to how Distance Learning will work for my class. There are 6 links at the bottom of the page that I have created in order to help explain these learning platforms, so make sure you check those out! Lastly, watch this SHORT video that walks you through what a week in my “virtual classroom” will look like!

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me! Stay safe and healthy!

Can’t wait to get started! enrichment
